Chandigarh is considered as one of the youngest cities in India, located in the north western part of the country. Chandigarh is the only city in the India which is a capital for two states- Punjab and Haryana, though both the state have this city as their capital, it is not administered by either of them. Chandigarh is directly administered by the central government and hence it is a Union Territory.

There are several places in the city which is worth watching, the main landmark buildings in Chandigarh is the ‘capital complex’. The capital complex is a combination of three beautiful government buildings- the Secretariat, the Assembly, and the High Court. Another city structure is ‘the open hand’, There is a 12 acres long rock garden built with disposed waste ceramics built with absolute creativity, The city also has Asia’s largest Rose Garden. This is a huge 30 acre land filled with nearly 1600 varieties of roses. Other attractions include the Geometric hills, Tower of shadows, Leisure valley, Museums and art galleries, Sukhna Lake etc.

Chandigarh has an airport 11 km from the city, and the city boast excellent road network. The accommodation facilities are also available.

Funcity, 20km from Chandigarh is the  biggest Amusement Park and Water  Park  in  entire northern region, is spread over 43 acres of scenic land. It is a unique combination of Amusement Park, Water Park and Resort. Here we can find exiting and hi-tech hydraulic rides (Razzle-Dazzle, Big Apple, Crazy Cars, Fun Slide, Fun Flight, Big  Wheel, Fun Willies etc.)  in Amusement Park for both children and adults. Wunder Water – the first and the biggest wet park in the region has three landing pools, one activity pool, one wave pool and 16 water  slides of different sizes and shape including a few  small ones  for  children. New rides like Aqua dance, lazy river, splash pool, Slides like Typhoon tunnel, White multi lane white slide, Run away raft slide, Red dragon slide, Pendulum slide have also been introduced.

National gallery was established in 1977 and is situated at Sector-17B in Chandigarh. It exhibits a journey of India’s struggle for freedom from the rising of 1857 to the achievement of freedom in 1947.

Here, you can find the portraits of famous Indian Freedom Fighters like Gandhiji and Pandit Jawaha Lal Nehru and also other freedom fighters recorded voices.

Apart from this, an amazing library with outstanding collection of books gives a vast account of the freedom movement. The gallery also exhibits more than 1000 photographs and duplicate of original rare documents, ceramic murals and sculptures. National Gallery of Portraits also houses a film on the freedom movement of India.

Chandigarh is located in northwest India. It is not only a Union Territory, but also the capital of the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is the first ‘planned’ city of India. The city site was selected in 1948 after a careful survey, including an aerial reconnaissance.

The city has neatly laid out roads and parks, and wide boulevards lined by endless rows of trees. Most of the buildings are closely spaced and laid out in continuous rows. This is called ‘terrace housing‘.
